Join Us!
JOIN US for a 7-week art program focused on the design and creation of a living, sculptural piece of wall art. Using art journaling, discussion, mindfulness activities, group problem solving, and collaboration, participants will reflect on the following questions:
- What life challenges or situations cause us to isolate or build emotional walls?
- Why do we hide or bottle our emotions?
- When is it helpful or not helpful to build emotional walls?
- On boundaries: what (or who) do we keep in or out of our lives?

Participants will design and create at least one framed “living wall” that uses a combination of paint, wood, found- or recycled objects, and nature….to be located in– or outside of a visible location on Sturgeon Bay’s West Side.
They will also be provided with time and materials to complete a personal art project to take home.

Participants will work with Jodi Rose Gonzales, a credentialed art therapist and artist who uses nature, found objects, and stories in her artwork. Jodi's art follows the story of a Girl in the Woods who learns to overcome hardships through friendships with various forest creatures.
Shown, from left: a living wall; messy hands; Home Grown (a former summer program artwork, shown on display at the Miller Art Museum); a sculptural wall made with branches; and Timberella #3, an artwork by Jodi Gonzales.

Hi! I'm Jodi.
I'm a Stride Creative service provider. I LOVE making group-created artwork because it is so empowering for participants as they contribute to a project that is much bigger than anything they dreamed they could do by themselves.
I hope you'll join this year's summer program!
We'll explore the Girl in the Woods, and share ideas for our Living Wall. Together, we'll decide on a design--and then we'll build it! At the end of the program we'll have a reveal party for family members and friends.
This is for all levels of artistic ability.
Most groups will be held to sizes of about 6 or less
to ensure a positive and empowering experience.
